Abstract: Objective: To compare the marginal microleakage of SonicFill between direct and indirect restoration of class Ⅱ cavities in posterior teeth. Methods: 50 human premolars were randomly divided into two groups with 25 teeth in each group. Group A was directly filled with SonicFill, and Group B was restored with SonicFill inlay. After thermocycling, 5 samples were randomly selected from each group for scanning electron microscope, and the remaining samples were stained with magenta and observed the staining of the occlusal and gingival margins under a stereomicroscope, and the penetration depth of the dye was measured and graded. Results: Under the scanning electron microscope, it was found that the restorations of two groups were well integrated with the tooth tissue, and little gaps were observed in both groups. The amount of gaps in group A was larger than that of group B. The dye penetration depth of group B was lower than that of group A (P<0.05) at the gingival margin, but there was no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05) at the occlusal margin. Conclusion: SonicFill inlay is better than direct SonicFill restoration in the performance of microleakage.
