Abstract: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are involved in the regulation of many pathophysiological processes by mediating intercellular communication. In-depth study of the biological behaviors and functions of EVs and their association with the development of diseases are the main research purpose at present. It will not only help to reveal the pathogenesis of related diseases, but will also facilitate the development of novel liquid biopsy biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis. However, current research methods for EVs, especially in regard to visualization of EVs, are still quite limited. This has hampered the better understanding of EVs and meanwhile posed great challenges for their potential applications. Therefore, developing reliable technologies to achieve the visualization of EVs' biological behaviors and functions is currently the frontier hot spot and urgent need in the research field of EVs. This article aims to briefly introduce the present visualization research on EVs, and prospect its future directions.
