The purpose of this paper is to provide some references and ideas for relevant clinical decisions and future research directions, by means of expounding the importance of first permanent molars, analyzing the necessity and treatment status of restoration for tooth defect, and introducing the effect and clinical application of preformed metal crowns in children's first permanent molars.

Key words: first permanent molars of children, tooth defect, interim restoration, preformed metal crown, stainless steel crown
