Research Progress on Quaternary Ammonium Monomer Dimethylaminododecyl Methacrylate-modified Dental Materials

Abstract: The ecological unbalance between oral microbes and host may induce infectious diseases, such as dental caries, periodontal diseases, candidiasis, peri-implantitis, and so on. Therefore, it is beneficial for dental materials with antimicrobial properties to prevent these illnesses. Dimethylaminododecyl methacrylate (DMADDM), a kind of quaternary ammonium salts, presents wide and remarkable antibacterial properties and is able to crosslink with substrate materials. DMADDM-modified dental materials can function as a non-releasing and long-lasting antibiotics. This paper reviews the antibiotic properties, antibacterial mechanism, and study of bacterial resistance of DMADDM-modified dental materials in recent years
