Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effect of alveolar bone expansion technique in elderly patients with the deficiency of alveolar bone width. Methods: 15 elderly patients of teeth loss with the deficiency of alveolar bone width were chosen. Preoperative CBCT showed that the widths of the alveolar bone were 3.0-5.0 mm. Applying bone expansion technique,35 implants were instantly embedded. The implants case was observed immediately after surgery. Follow-up for 1 week after operation was applied to observe the wound healing. CBCT was reexamined 6 months after surgery to observe the osseointegration of implants. Results: The patients had no discomfort during the operation and no obvious adverse reactions after the operation. The average width of alveolar bone after bone expansion was 6.5 mm. The average bone width at the second stage of surgery 6 months later was 5.9 mm, an average increase of 2.2 mm compared with the preoperative width. Conclusion: Compared with traditional surgical methods, bone expansion technology has less damage to patient and is minimal invasive. It’s suitable for the elderly patients with deficient alveolar bone.
