Abstract: Enamel demineralization is one of the most common complications in the orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances, demonstrated as the chalk-colored opaque spots or plaques on the surface of the teeth. It obviously reduces the aesthetics and enamel health of teeth. Some serious cases even require the removal of appliances. Because of the high morbidity and being short of effective clinical approaches, we have to face the challenge of prevention and treatment of enamel demineralization. To improve our understanding and hunting for the potential therapies, this paper is aiming to review the progress of enamel demineralization during the orthodontic treatment.
