Abstract: Objective: To describe the periodontal health status among people aged 35-74 and explore the risk factors for periodontitis. Methods: A stratified multistage randomly sampling design was applied to obtain 3 age groups samples. Gingival bleeding, dental calculus, periodontal pocket, and attachment loss were checked by using CPI probe according to the Guideline for the fourth National Oral Health Survey. Data entry was performed using Epidata 3.1 software and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 software. Results: A total of 651 samples were participated in this study, and mean age were 55.78 year old (SD 12.54), and 50% were females. The prevalence of gingival bleeding was 92.5% and 95.9% for dental calculus, the prevalence of shallow periodontal pocket, deep periodontal pocket, and attachment loss were 37.9%, 5.7%, and 48.7%, respectively. The prevalence of periodontitis was 38.2%, and the univariate analysis showed that the periodontitis was associated with age, gender, and smoking (P＜0.01). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the risk factor of periodontitis was who did not have regular oral examination for nearly 1 year (P=0.043). Conclusion: Periodontitis has the potential to impact the oral health and general well-being of middle aged and elderly people. Preventive dental care made available to adults will improve their oral health status.
