Abstract: Jaw bone defects may lead to the functional and morphological abnormality, and make restoration of dental implants more difficult. To avoid secondary injury caused by harvesting of autologous bone, seeking a superior bone substitute material is a focus of present researchers. Dentine has been paid attention in recent years because of its merits of easy availability, simple preparation and reliable bone formation effects. This paper reviewed the mechanism of bone formation, preparation methods, characteristics and clinical application of dentine used as bone grafting material.
