Abstract: Objective: To investigate the expression level of TLR4, NOD2 and NLRP3 in inflamed human dental pulp. Methods: Forty-seven human third molars were divided into three groups: healthy group, carious group, and pulpitis group. The expressions of TLR4, NOD2 and NLRP3 in each group were investigated by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining. Results: In healthy group, the expressions of TLR4, NOD2, and NLRP3 were only observed in odontoblastic layer. The expression of TLR4, NOD2, and NLRP3 were higher in the caries and pulpitis groups compared with the healthy group. In inflamed dental pulp, TLR4, NOD2, and NLRP3 were detected in odontoblasts, inflammatory cells, and dental pulp fibroblasts. Conclusion: The expressions of TLR4, NOD2, and NLRP3 were simultaneously increased in pulpitis. TLR4, NOD2, and NLRP3 might associate with the progress of pulpitis.
