Abstract: Dental caries is one of the most common chronic infectious diseases worldwide, and the incidence in children is increasing. Microorganisms are one of the main factors that cause dental caries. The species, mechanisms, and diversity of cariogenic microorganisms are hot topics in oral microbiology research. With the development of modern molecular biological techniques, molecular biological detection techniques are now widely used in microbiological research. These early detection and prevention methods play an important role in reducing the incidence of caries disease in children. This review focuses on the research advancement of some modern molecular biotechnology in oral microbial diversity research. In addition, it also made a prospect for the study of oral microbial diversity in children.
