Abstract: Oral submucosal fibrosis (OSF) is a collagen deposition disease characterized by scarring and tissue fibrosis, which can severely affect the oral function and quality of life of patients. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are more than 5 million OSF patients worldwide, with malignant transformation rates ranging from 1.5%-15%. Thus WHO has included it in the category of potentially malignant disorders of the oral cavity. The clinical and basic research progress of OSF is reviewed in this paper, with aim to provide a reference for understanding the pathogenesis of the disease and its early clinical prevention and treatment.
