Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effect of orthodontic traction for impacted maxillary central incisor on root development. Methods: Patients with impacted maxillary central incisors in different growth periods were treated with orthodontic traction. MCT was used to locate and follow up the growth of the roots. The root development was compared. Results: After traction, 17 incisor roots with bending in growth period continued development in correct direction, with normal crown root ratio, but root length was shorter than the contralateral counterpart teeth. Two incisor roots were bended with defect of alveolar bone which led to traction failure. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and early traction are beneficial to the further development of impacted incisor root, but the defect of alveolar bone should be carefully evaluated.
