Abstract: Oral leukoplakia is defined as the white lesions on the oral mucosa, mainly characterized by hyperkeratosis, which is the most common potential malignant disease of the oral cavity. At present, there are various treatment methods, among which photodynamic therapy as a novel minimally invasive technique with combined use of drugs and devices, is promising and highly feasible in the treatment of oral leukoplakia. In this paper, the basic principle of photodynamic therapy, treatment factors, and relevant factors affecting the efficacy of leukoplakia were reviewed.
