Abstract: Objective: To investigate the difference between Tip-Edge Plus and Damon self-ligating brackets in torque control in extraction cases. Methods: Patients treated in Nanjing Stomatological Hospital in 2012~2014 who needed four premolar extraction were selected, with 20 cases treated by the Tip-Edge Plus appliance (TP group) and 20 cases treated by the Damon self-ligating brackets (DM group). Digital cephalograms were recorded and cephalometric analyses were carried out before treatment and after treatment. Results: No difference was observed before treatment in upper incisor inclination (TP group 112.45±6.39°, DM group 111.87±6.33°); significant retraction of anterior incisors were founded with no difference in torque control of both upper incisors (TP group 99.32±7.33°, DM group 99.57±4.74°); the protrusive lips were significantly retracted with remarked profile improvement, and no difference in Z angle was observed (TP group 99.32±7.33°, DM group 99.57±4.74°). Conclusion: Both the Tip-Edge Plus and Damon self-ligating brackets could effectively control the torque of front teeth, and no differences were found in two groups.
