Abstract: Objective: To compare the differences between 2D and 3D measurements of facial morphology of Uygur youthful males and females by using 3D scanner scanning in Xinjiang area of Kashi. Methods: Data from 341 healthy Uygur individuals were collected by 3DCaMega scanner (male 116 and female 225). Geomagic studio software was used to reconstruct 3D morphology, mark landmarks, set 3D coordinate system, confirm the reproducibility of the measurement, and measure 2D and 3D distances between landmarks of each sample. Results: All 9 measurements were confirmed perfect reproducibility (P>0.05). Comparison of facial distance parameters between Uygur males and females. There were significant differences between 2D and 3D distances for Len-Ren, Lex-Rex, N'-Sn and Sn-Mes measurements. No difference was found for Tr-N' and Lal-Ral measurements in 2D distances (P>0.05), but significant diffierence existed in 3D distances (P<0.05). Conclusion: 3D facial measurement is an accurate and reliable anthropometric method to reflect the differences of complex structures of human face.
