Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of pH on the morphology of hydroxyapatite whisker (HAPw) modified by nano zinc oxide (nmCaO) and nano calcium oxide (nmZnO). Methods: Under the condition of 70℃, different pH=6.0, 6.2, 6.4, 6.6, 6.8, 7.0, using the zinc nitrate and calcium nitrate as the source of zinc and calcium, the hydroxyapatite whisker was modified by sol-gel method. The phase composition and surface morphology of the materials were analyzed by X ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and X ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). Results: Under different pH conditions, the distribution of the zinc oxide and calcium oxide nanoparticles on the HAPw surface was different. The shape of nano-ZnO and nano-CaO were six crystal particle and round granular, respectively. The particles and the whiskers were bonded by chemical bonds. Conclusion: With calcium nitrate and zinc nitrate as raw materials, the hydroxyapatite whisker was modified by sol-gel method, and the optimal pH was 6.2 and 6.4.
