Abstract: Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) is one of the major pathogenic bacterium in periodontitis and its structure and virulence factors play key roles in destroying periodontal tissues. Researchers found that it could escape from the defense of the innate immune system by breaking through mucosal barriers, resisting phagocytosis, and destroying complement systems, resulting in periodontitis. The article reviewed P.gingivalis about its leading to the development of periodontitis and the mechanism for escaping from the defense of the innate immune system.
