Abstract: Objective: To compare the expression of glucan-binding protein C (gbpC) of streptococcus mutans under normal outside environment between high temperature requirement serine proteinase A (HtrA) gene-deficient strains and high-virulent strains of streptococcus mutans (S.mutans) isolated from children with high cario-susceptibility. Methods: The HtrA-deficient strains and high virulent strains of S.mutaus were obtained by preliminary study. The strains were reanimated and incubated in BHI medium to exponential phase at 12th hour. The biochemical identification and Gram stain identification were used to identify them. The expression of gbpC gene and protein in S.mutans strains were detected by qPCR and Western Blot, respectively. Results: HtrA highly virulent strains had higher gbpC gene and protein expression levels than that of HtrA gene-deficient strains. Conclusion: The expression of gbpC in streptococcus mutans was affected by HtrA
