Abstract: Objective: To investigate the role of periodontal pathogens in nifedipine-induced gingival enlargement. Methods: The differences of relative quantification of periodontal pathogens including porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), prevotella intermedia (Pi), treponema denticola (Td), tannerella forsythia (Tf) were tested in hypertension patients with nifedipine-induced gingival enlargement (Group A, 23cases) , hypertension patients taking nifedipine without nifedipine-induced gingival enlargement (Group B, 23cases) , patients with chronic periodontitis (Group C, 23cases) using real-time PCR. Results: The relative quantification of Pg、Td、Tf and Pi between Group A and Group B had statistically difference (P<0.05), Group A was higher than Group B, but had no statistical difference between Group A and Group C. Conclusion: Plaque microorganisms play a very important role in nifedipine-induced gingival enlargement.
